Year 6 end of SATs Fun Farm Friday

Year 6 SATs and Fun Farm Friday information

We are writing to thank you for all your time and support with recent homework. We are very proud of the Year 6 approach to their individual learning needs.  The effort they have been putting in to go the extra mile and ‘plug those gaps’ has had an effective impact!

During SAT week (Monday 8th May – Thursday 11th May) we will be offering a breakfast club for Year 6s.

Please feed your child breakfast as normal, however children are invited into Newtown Base from 8.15am, where toast and bananas will be available to feed the brain! It is a great way to build a positive and fun atmosphere, which previous cohorts have found very beneficial.

On the Friday of SAT week, we are pleased to offer a ‘fun morning’ for Year 6. They will be collected from the village square at 9.30am, for a tractor/ trailer ride and taken to Corhampton Farm private woods.  During the morning, we will organise a variety of tasks and activities in the outdoors in the safe location, including den building and wide games.  The trailer will then return the children to the square during lunchtime. Children must wear long trousers and have a long sleeve top/jacket as there are nettles in the woods.

They will also need a picnic lunch, which we can hopefully eat in the woods, if the weather is kind! In addition, it would be helpful if the children brought a plastic bag to sit on for eating their lunch and can then be used to take their own rubbish home.  We will try our hardest to get them dirty, so please can they come to school in their outdoor clothes, but bring their uniform to change into for afternoon lessons. Wellies or walking boots would be ideal footwear.  A completed permission slip should be returned to the school by Friday 5th May. Please advise on the slip below if you require a school lunch to be prepared.

On a final note, please ensure the weekend before SAT week, that your child gets plenty of rest and relaxation. There will be no homework set, as fresh air and sleep will be the best preparation they can have.

Thank you again for your commitment and support,

The Year 5 & 6 Team

Year 5 & 6 Trip to The National Gallery in London

Letter sent out 27.04.17

24th May 2017 UPDATE

 Dear Parents,

Due to the terrible events that have occurred in Manchester, I am sure parents would wish to find out more information concerning tomorrow’s trip to the National Gallery, London.

After lengthy discussions with county advisors, both in Hampshire and further afield; the National Gallery and its own security advisors; our travel providers; our Chair of Governors and taking advice from the Home Office – the decision has been made for the trip to proceed as planned.

Timings are the same in terms of leaving the square at 8:15 a.m.  Please ensure children have taken any travel sickness tablets they would need and have plenty of food and drinks as stated in the original letter.  It is also a normal school uniform day.

After leaving the square our journey takes us straight to the gallery.  We enter the gallery through the education entrance, while still having security guards and bag checks, is not a public entrance and is only for schools.  We then stay in the gallery for the duration of the day and return to Droxford as planned.

I hope this answers any questions or concerns that may be raised.

With kind regards

 Matthew Dampier

Children will need to be in the school square by 8am as the coach is due to leave at 8.15 am (as a request of the coach company – in order to get us to central London by 11.00am). Staff will be in the square early and we will use the church hall to register the children and use the toilet facilities there, if required. We are due back at approximately 5.30pm, traffic permitting.  Please ensure alternative travel arrangements have been made to collect them from Droxford Square at that time.  We will notify school of our departure and we will text parents of our estimated time of arrival.

The cost for the trip will be £10.00. The children will not need any pocket money on the day.

Every child needs to bring their own packed lunch (and snacks for the morning and afternoon) in a backpack with some water. During the trip children will be required to wear school uniform.
