Year 2 Fun Sports afternoon
Jun 15 @ 1:15 pm – 2:30 pm

Fun sports afternoon

Year 2 parents bring their children to Droxford Junior School for a fun sports afternoon. This will be you’re your child to become familiar with the school and they will get to know staff and other children as they rotate around different activities. They will need to arrive in her PE kit with a bottle of water. Parents will need to drop their child off at the school reception and collect them at 2.30pm from the quiet area (the central courtyard outside the school hall).

Getting to know the school

Whilst the children are enjoying their activities Year 2 parents will meet the administration team in the hall. They will talk through routines, transport arrangements, school uniform and any questions you may have.  Year 6 children will give guided tours during the afternoon.  (Parents with children already at Droxford Junior School are most welcome to stay but you may feel you know enough about the school already!)  A representative from FODS (Friends of Droxford School) will outline the valuable contribution parents make to the school community.

Sports Day 1pm
Jun 21 @ 9:30 am – 11:00 am

Sports Day Wednesday 21st June at 9.30am. (changed from 1pm)

Dear Parents/carers,

Due to the unprecedented hot weather we have decided, given the advice from the Department of Health (see below) and how children and staff have been recently, to bring forward the time of sports day. We will now have the sports day tomorrow morning starting at 9.30am. Children can order their lunch as usual. The format will be altered slightly as we will only run the team activities ensuring all children participate. The competitive races will be postponed until a later date.

Family and friends are welcome to come and watch and there will be parking available on the recreation ground – please don’t come too early to avoid traffic congestion. Walking or parking elsewhere is still a sensible and viable option.

The Met Office has issued a Level 3 Heatwave Alert for the South East Region, which means there is a 90% probability of heatwave conditions between 0900 Monday 19 June 2017 and 2100 on Thursday in parts of England. The trigger level for the South East is 31°c on two or more consecutive days and 16°c during the night.

Please make sure your child is wearing sunscreen before sending them to school, also ensure they have a water bottle with them and a sunhat. We will endeavour to keep the children out of the sun as much as possible.

The Department of Health Heatwave Plan has some simple advice to help people cope with the heat. These are particularly important for those in the high risk groups in order to avoid suffering ill-effects from the heat:

 Stay out of the heat:

  • Keep out of the sun between 11.00am and 3.00pm.
  • If you have to go out in the heat, walk in the shade, apply sunscreen and wear a hat and light scarf.
  • Avoid extreme physical exertion.
  • Wear light, loose-fitting cotton clothes.

 Cool yourself down:

  • Have plenty of cold drinks, and avoid excess alcohol, caffeine and hot drinks.
  • Eat cold foods, particularly salads and fruit with a high water content.
  • Take a cool shower, bath or body wash.
  • Sprinkle water over the skin or clothing, or keep a damp cloth on the back of your neck.

We are always concerned that rain will cause the postponement of sports day – hot weather is very unusual and not the norm in this country. FODS will still be present to provide refreshments but please bring water or liquid refreshments yourselves.

We are hoping the children still have a great time and you all get to see them in action.

Thank you for your considered understanding on this matter

With best wishes

Matthew Dampier

The children will be divided into twelve all age teams. We will endeavour to put brothers and sisters in the same team. The teams will aim to achieve the highest score at each event. Your child will need to have their normal PE kit in school.

You are most welcome to come and support. Please make your way down to the field to see the action! FODS will provide a refreshment stall and a second-hand school uniform stall. They will also provide fresh fruit and water for the children.
